Hmmm, now to ponder whether I hold off till next year for an iPad refresh or bite the bullet and just get an air2
I'm running a 16GB "the new iPad" before it went to lightning adapter, and it's slow as can be.

Same. The wife is using it, and it's barely holding on. changing tabs in Safari takes multiple seconds. To be honest if I was using it rather than her (she's quite technologically illiterate, so the iPad has been amazing for her) it would have been replaced a year or more ago.
Really hoping to hold out for the next iPad mini update...

I can't believe the cellular option is still $130 more.

It's just a cellular data connection with GPS...

I can get cheap smartphones with GPS, cellular AND voice, screen, speakers, battery, memory, SD slot, camera and more for way less than that...

I'm with you; and I take it a step further. I'm amazed that they see fit to even make a wifi-only model.

With so many people mobile these days, folks may just spring for data more frequently when it's just built-in. Paying a premium for the hardware capable of doing something you may not often use is strange.

Apple having a separate chassis for each model with and without the antenna strip is just as odd, too. If the device is designed to be capable, why aren't there bigger batteries in the non-LTE models or just make all models LTE capable.

Want to advance the iPad lineup in the market as a whole, and even sell more units? LTE across the board. Don't make a SIM card and GPS chip a $130 up-charge.

I mean, it's nice that prices got lowered. But I agree that this suggests any kind of iPad refresh is even further away. At least they're standardizing 32GB across their offerings, finally.

I'm really looking forward to an A10 iPad release, preferably with the RAM bump like the Pro has. But I can wait. Spring would be nice if this fall is out.

799 USD = 599 GBP. iPad Pro in US = 799 USD , iPad Pro in UK now = 729 GBP ( + 130 GBP / + 173 USD)

You're forgetting sales tax which varies by state in US but is called VAT in U.K. and is fixed at 20%

So $799 =£599
£599 * 1.2 = £718.80
The remaining £10 could be a hedge against further drop in value of sterling.

Still too expensive for 2016.
One of the many reasons tablets are not selling like hot cakes anymore

What's the problem? Same price, same specs. Only a doubling in storage space, which your dad wouldn't even notice. Just smile! :)
Yeah, true. It's no big deal. 32 GB is still probably not enough for him and 128 GB is too much anyway. So it's not too much of a loss.

I bought an iPad Pro 128Gb Cellular 12.9" last month. Was NZ$1899, now NZ$1669. My pain is eased because I bought it duty free, thus saving the 15% GST. So I paid $1651.

But that's technology. There will always be a newer model or a cheaper price just around the corner.

And don't raise the prices, either. I don't want to triple (or more) dip for internet service.

I have my phone, it can share data to my iPad and laptop. Is this reason enough to drop the LTE versions of iPads??

If they bring the price of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro down to $499 like it should be, then I'll bite. Until then, its not worth the premium over the Air 2.

Agreed. When the 9.7 Pro launched and it was announced it was $100.00 more, it was disappointing to hear that. It would be more convenient to have it at $500.00 for a start price. And the Pencil support is not for me.

Well, its probably not likely to see any new iPad Minis this year with a price drop now with no announcement of something new coming. Perhaps I'll wait for someone to put the Mini 4 on sale and get it a little cheaper yet and move from away from the Mini 2.

This was inevitable. Competing devices offer more storage or expandable storage and compete on pricing. Apple is no longer the only company to offer premium hardware and software. They are under more pressure to compete.

we can only hope. They 'think different'.

Might have to pick up a mini 4 32gb to hold me over until next year's iPP refresh. I need a bigger screen for my commute anyway; I miss my Mini 4. Unless I just throw in the towel and get an iPP now...

(Dang, indecision mania strikes again.) :p

Would it be possible to get an iPad Mini 4 16 G at a lower price while stores still have stock? How would I try to do that?

Of course they'd sell more. But then instead of having a margin of $100 (I'm just guessing), they'd have a margin of just $20. I doubt that they'd sell 5x as many by dropping the price from $130 to $50.

The question I have is: Why isn't cellular an option on any of the macs? I'd be willing to spend extra to have a cellular connection built into the MacBook Pro.

But they also get their recurring cut of people signing up for the cellular service, that can really add up....

I'm surprised too at the no MacBook cellular option, but since I can tether to my phone, that isn't such a big deal.

My other $130 issue with the iPad is you have to get the cellular option to get the GPS.

I suppose, but 16GB is really awful. People have been begging to get rid of it for years....

Apple doesn't aim to make affordable products. They aim for as much profit as possible. Apparently a $130 premium is what the market supports. Charge more and you lose too many customers - charge less and you don't get many more customers, but you lose out on profit you could have made on each sell.

Their prices have little to do with how much it costs them to assemble the devices (other than the fact you can assume they're not selling at a loss, and that their profit margin is at a minimum of 15%, and generally beyond 30%.)

Or just wait to next year and these ipads will be $100 or $200 cheape. That what I do.

I never buy some thing new when it comes out.I wait year and than get it.
