This is the first iPhone I’m going to rock without a case. I’m going slim for a reason.
I always think the same, then realize holding the bare iPhone is like squeezing a wet bar of soap. Either add a case or add NFL wide receiver gloves to your wardrobe.

Maybe I just haven't had enough coffee yet today, or perhaps I'm just smooth brain here, but what's the point of making a super thin phone but keeping the camera bump nearly 2x the thickness?
Because thinness is all about how it feels in your hand - and you don’t hold the phone by the camera.

u buy slim phone and put the thickest case :S
I never understood these comments.

If you buy a thin phone (1 cm) and put a 2 cm case on it, the phone is now 3 cm.

If you buy a regular sized phone (2 cm) and put a 3 cm case on it, the phone is now 5 cm.

The numbers above are made up for the sake of the example. The point being is, a thin phone with a case is still going to be thinner than a thicker phone with a case on it.

So you can still claim how thin the phone is and win on paper...
I guess I don't get the appeal of a win on thinness vs, say, a win on battery life and durability.

Can only speak for myself, but I'd be more likely to upgrade for a slightly thicker phone with the cameras not in danger of getting smashed and the extra thickness necessary to make them flush dedicated to extra battery.

i believe they are the ones blocking the removal of the port
It’s politics. And to some degree it’s getting ridiculous. That doesn’t change the fact that Siri is as stupid as it gets, and there’s a limit to what consumers are willing to pay when they’re getting so little in return. Thinner phones? I get it, but at least get John back on the design team.

I think most potential buyers would gladly give up Face ID (Touch ID in the button instead) if it mean the camera bar could be thinner...

Even without the Face ID camera/sensors, the thickness of the rear cameras might still require the same camera bump thickness. There's also the front-facing camera, though I'm curious how its thickness compares to that of the Face ID camera.

But at this point, since Face ID has been around for some years and a lot of iPhone users have gotten used to it, I don't think most users would want Face ID to disappear in favor of a Touch ID button, though a lot of people might.

It'll be interesting to find out what's inside the wider/longer camera bump in the iPhone 17 Air and Pro models, and why it won't be any thinner than prior models, though that's probably because the cameras in the 17 series are the same thickness as those in prior iPhones. The body of the current iPad Pros are only 5.1mm thick compared to the predicted thickness of the 17 Air at 5.5mm, and the iPad Pro camera bump isn't nearly as thick as current iPhones, so Apple has shown it can fit cameras into a thinner bump and housing, though it seems likely that the two cameras in the iPad Pro are thinner since their specs are significantly lower than those of the cameras in iPhones (for instance, 12 megapixels vs. 48).

Looks like everything is pointing to the new camera bar design. Disappointing thing is the presence of only a single lens for the phone.
