I changed my phone number. I thought I was being smart.

Businesses like Amazon, TikTok, etc, will not verify my sign-in any longer as they continue to verify by my old phone number. I can't sign in without verifying. I can't verify if they use the old number. I can't change my number in their records unless I verify. Its HELL!

These businesses will not change the number for me, whether I verify my email address, or drivers card. I'v been trying for 5 days.

If you install two step verification you are cementing your account with only one phone number.

That was always the way two-step verification works?
If you want to change to the new number, you'll have to have the old number accessible to verify the change to the new number. Another option is to disable two-step verification prior to the number change, but for that you'll also need the old number accessible to verify.

Yeah it's.... best 😬 not to change phone numbers.

If it's necessary, FIRST, change all your 2-factor accounts over to a new number first (either get your new number on a 2nd SIM and keep the old one active until you're done, or switch to wife's number, or whatever)

But yeah, it's a PITA for sure.

Better yet, albeit again before losing the phone #, convert the two-factor to an authorization app. For FB , I have it linked with Microsoft Authenticator.

Agreed! Always have an alternative. I use DUO by Cisco.
To answer the OP question: I have no idea how we will progress beyond 2FA. Hopefully some genius comes up with a viable solution soon. Remembering usernames, passwords with 16 plus random, non sequential, including capital, small, numbers and special characters and then verifying via physical device with 30 second lifespan key is quite cumbersome to the users, yet seemingly slows the hackers not one bit.
Especially since the database that includes all of our sensitive information is protected with:
username: admin
password: admin

Once upon a time I had issues with this website because the email I used to login was long gone. One day, MacRumors did an update that required you to create a new password via an email link. Tried a couple of different ways to get it done. Eventually, I just gave up and created a new account.
